Best time of year to come

There is no bad time to sail the Whitsundays. Each season simply has its own character.

Summer: November to April

Summer is the most popular time to travel, mainly for international guests, and it lines up with school holidays and the northern winter. Days are hot and there is more rain, which keeps the islands lush and green.

Winter: May to October

Winter brings a stable climate with minimal rain, steady winds and frequent clear skies. It is cooler than summer, but still a warm 25°C on average and the humidity drops. There are also fewer visitors, so beaches and viewpoints can feel more private.

Marine life all year

Marine life is abundant all year, including turtles, dolphins and plenty of “Nemo” fish.

Humpback whales: July to September

From July to September the sheltered waters of the Whitsundays become the temporary home of migrating humpback whales. You may see them breaching and diving as they raise their calves.
